Freedom and Culture
Alchemy in partnership with Cultural Brokers

Freedom and Culture's dynamic, nationwide programme of activity marks the bicentenary of the Parliamentary Abolition of the Slave Trade in the British Empire

Conceived by Alchemy and Cultural Brokers, the programme targets five regions: Yorkshire, the North West, East Midlands, the South West and London.

A struggle for freedom goes hand in hand with a struggle for expression.  Artists have always been and always will be, a powerful force for emancipation.  Freedom and Culture brings together artists, organisations and audiences in a range of partnerships that include the BFI, the Royal Mint, the South Bank Centre, Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Creative Partnerships Cumbria, the University of Leeds, Primary Colours, Huddersfield, Leicester Museums and Galleries and the Arnolfini, Bristol.

The programme culminates in an International Creative Forum at the South Bank Centre, London, on 10 November 2007.  This provides a showcase for established artists activists and thinkers, as well as merging artists and new voices.
