Costumes and Textiles from Pakistan
From the Collections of Bradford Arts, Heritage and Leisure Service
Cartwright Hall, Bradford has an exquisite collection of historical and contemporary costumes and textiles from . These include haute couture costumes from the Libas workshops. The palette ranges from white on white chikan kari embroidery and opulent gold zardosi to amethyst purple and topaz silks. Other items include Phulkaris and Khas which depict traditional embroidery and weaving techniques of Pakistan.

An ambitious re-display of the Cartwright Hall Collections will be launched in 2007/08 based on the themes of People, Place and Imagination. Prelude offers preliminary insights into the process of revisioning a body of work that draws upon historic and contemporary art. The collections reflect some of the best artistic expressions from Europe, and Asia including art from Muslim cultures. Prelude illustrates how powerful connections in art can cut across cultures and different timeframes.
